The greater change in market trends has come in the form of alternative DBMS model choices besides relational, namely the NoSQL OSDBMSs. Let’s discuss this market trend in this two-part series of blog.
In recent years, The OSDBMS market has expanded rapidly and a great share of DBMS Market. According to Gartner report, the OSDBMS Market share has recorded 70% in growth rate between 2010 and 2014. It estimates the OSDBMS vendors contributed $562 million (Approximately 1.7%) to the $32.9 billion DBMS market in 2014. Although OSDBMS was only taken 1.7% in 2014 out of total DBMS market, there is no doubt that OSDBMS has an enormous potential (See Figure 1)
It shows that OSDBMS has 1.7% of the overall DMBS market. However, on the right chart, a whopping 64%of DBMS software projects were reported by respondents as using OSDBMS products. It means that the majority of OSDBMS use today incorporates non-commercial products. Much of non-commercial OSDBMS is difficult to capture in Market share by revenue. It would be measurable OSDBMS revenues on Market share only when the customers convert from the non-commercial usage to the commercial license. It remains a great challenge, and a great opportunity for OSDBMS vendor.
Obviously, it indicates a market shift in which more companies are adopting OSDMS products than before. we will discuss this expended market structure on the next blog.
