The first seminar of ‘Graph Database in SV’
The seminar was held in Korean Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA) Silicon Valley and about twenty people attended the seminar. We provided the foods and refreshments as a sponsor of this Meetup. As you can see the following photos, we had the meaningful and informative discussion on the Graph Database.
First, Joshua, US marketing manager of Bitnine, introduced GDB in SV Meetup such as the concept and management direction, and he said that Bitnine is supporting this seminar as a sponsor of the Meetup. Also, his talk aims to give better understanding of the graph database; what is it for and what is the strength of the graph database compared to other database systems.
Ph.D Kisung Kim, CTO of Bitnine and a leader of new graph database development called Agens Graph, gave an overview of the seminar and made a presentation – What is Graph Database, History and status of GDB, and Comparison to other NoSQL database.
In summary, “First, the motivation of graph database is for simple and intuitive data model. Graph data model is very promising because of their simplicity and intuitiveness. And graph query language, like Cypher, can dramatically reduce developer’s efforts to make and debug complex SQL queries.” said Ph.D Kim.
And he also outlined the strengths for graph database, “This is the most important motivation of the graph database. And graph database is optimized to process complex connections because they are specialized to handle the complex connected data.”
After Ph.D Kim’s presentation, Joshua presented about ‘How I implemented data using Graph DB’ by using Neo4j. Graph data model can provide powerful visualization different from other databases using graph traversals. So, data scientists can explore and traverse the graph data to discover valuable insights, and graph analysis algorithms can also help to discover hidden values from their connected data.
After the presentation, free discussion between the participants are opened about the topics – the Graph DB awareness and Market trend, Graph DB use cases in the businesses, and Suggestions on the Meetup. They expressed their opinion and exchanged the various questions actively during the hot discussion.
